about me
Marie Hackman MIFA C&G (7307) is currently the Principal Tutor at Rosewood Aromatherapy College in Nottingham, where she teaches the Aromatherapy Massage Diploma Level 4 course for the IFA (International Federation of Aromatherapists). Originally, she worked as a Personal Assistant for some of the biggest names in UK industry, before discovering a passion for Aromatherapy back in 1992 whilst reading 'The Art of Aromatherapy' by Robert Tisserand. She subsequently qualified in Anatomy, Physiology, Body Massage and Aromatherapy with a Practitioner’s Diploma the following year.
Marie has taken many subsequent courses (see below) in order to extend her knowledge, including the Licentiate Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy (Aromatology) with the Penny Price Academy back in 2010 when she gained 'Distinction' (94%) in her final exam.
Wanting to pursue her interest in essential oils at a deeper level, she eventually made the break with commercial industry to work full time in her own Aromatherapy Clinic in 1995. Additionally in 1998, she undertook a bridging course with Maureen Farrell, Principal of the Hygeia School of Holistic Therapy, who was also at that time, Chairman of ISPA (International Society of Professional Aromatherapists). This enabled Marie to up-grade her membership status to ‘full’ with ISPA (later to become the IFPA) and paved the way for further training.
Marie has always been inspired by working with essential oils, and so the next logical step was to pass that inspiration on to others who shared a passion for Aromatherapy. So, after undertaking a City & Guilds teaching qualification, Marie taught both Massage and Aromatherapy at her local Further Education College between 2003-2005. Rosewood Aromatherapy College was established in 2012 with the sole intent of training Aromatherapists to the highest possible level.
She has been a full membership of the IFA since 2006 and also continues to practice Aromatherapy from her own Clinic. In 2016, Marie was invited onto the Council of the IFA as a Trustee and Director, serving as Vice Chair and Chair between 2018 and 2020.
Her interest in Aromatherapy and essential oils shows no sign of diminishing and she thoroughly enjoys “talking oils” in a learning environment with others who share her enthusiasm and passion.
Always wanting to strive forward in attaining greater knowledge about her chosen career, Marie has also undertaken the following training courses at various times over the years:
- Indian Head Massage
- Deep Tissue and Advanced Massage Techniques
- Aromatherapy Treatments for Arthritis
- Aromatic Chemistry of Essential Oils and Carriers
- Understanding and Using Hydrolats
- Advanced Thermo-Auricular Therapy Training
- Aromatherapy for Pregnancy
- Aromadermatology
- Botany for Aromatherapists (at Kew Botanical Gardens, London)
